Ogunquit’s Mardi Gras

Ogunquit Celebrates Mardi Gras Feb 12-13

 The weekend events include a Hat Parade, Concerts, Contests and Ice Sculptures.

 On Friday, Feb 12 at 8:30 pm the Mardi Gras King and Queen Crowning Competition is held at Maine Street. The Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce awards the titles of Mardi Gras King and Queen. Contestants will answer trivia questions about Ogunquit. The winners will be asked to lead the Mardi Gras parade on Saturday. This contest will not discriminate on the basis of gender—participants choice of attire will determine entrance into King or Queen categories!

Throughout the weekend ice sculptures will be shown at nine different locations. And Ice skating will be available at the Community Ice Skating Rink on Cottage Street next to the Dunaway Center. Free hot cocoa and coffee in the lobby of the Dunaway Center. The rink is open until 10 p.m. nightly.

On Saturday Feb. 13^th a Hat Party is held at Maine Street. If you have a crazy hat for the parade, great! But if you don’t, you can make one at the Mardi Gras Hat Party, for a small amterials fee.

At 2-2:30 p.m. The Hat Parade will be held between Maine Street and the Old Village Inn on the sidewalks of downtown Ogunquit. Prizes will be awarded! And also for the best miniature floats prizes will be awarded., but since this parade will be on the sidewalk, floats must use a hand-pulled wagon or a sled as a base.

At 2:30 p.m. there will be a parade Awards Ceremony at Old Village Inn.

At 3 p.m. The Island Tones Steel Drum Band will hold a concert at the Front Porch.
