Carson Kressley Returns to the Playhouse

April 16, 2012

Hot off his run in “Dancing with the Stars”, Emmy Award winning television star, celebrity stylist, author and fashion designer, Carson Kressley will return to the Ogunquit Playhouse in the 2012 production of “Damn Yankees: The Boston Red Sox version,” on stage July 25 through August 18. This summer the Ogunquit Playhouse will celebrate its 80th anniversary of producing award-winning theater in Southern Maine. Kressley was last seen at the Ogunquit Playhouse in his critically acclaimed performance as Man in Chair during the 2010 run of “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
In “Damn Yankees”, Kressley will play Mr. Applegate in the Faustian baseball musical that won seven Tony awards when it opened on Broadway 56 years ago. In the new Ogunquit Playhouse production, die-hard Red Sox fan Joe Boyd offers his soul to this devil in return for “one long-ball hitter”. Applegate uses his power to turn Joe into a young, strong, handsome, long-ball hitter with supernatural athletic abilities. As the team begins to win, Joe looks for a loophole to get out of the deal. This devilish dealmaker pulls out all the stops, most notably, the sizzling hot temptress Lola.
Kressley is bound to bring the house down with his antics!

April 2, 2012

The Ogunquit Playhouse is set to celebrate its 80th Anniversary season from May 23 to October 21. Join the celebration with a lineup that offers a mix of Broadway’s most enduring musical classics, along with some of the most popular new shows on stage today.
The 80th season kicks off with “Always, Patsy Cline” on stage from May 23 through June 16. This inspirational show is told through the letters of Louise Segar, portrayed by our own favorite, Sally Struthers. She is celebrating her 10th Anniversary of performing at the Ogunquit Playhouse! The show features the unforgettable hits of country music star, Patsy Cline and includes 27 songs and is a touching and funny tribute to the career and life of the singer. You’d be “Crazy” to miss it.
One of the most enchanting musicals of all time, “South Pacific” hits the stage June 2-July 14. This all new production is based on the lavish and breathtaking 2008 Tony Award winning Lincoln Center production. Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices. Don’t miss this flawless, simply wonderful American Classic!
Up next is the devilishly sexy “Damn Yankees”- the new Boston Red Sox version- on stage from July 25- August 18. A bewitching seductress, America’s favorite pastime and Satan himself mix it up in the popular musical comedy. When a devilish dealmaker offers diehard Red Sox fan Joe the chance to beat the damn Yankees in return for his soul, Joe takes it. But as the Red Sox stats soar, Joe realizes he’s losing his beloved wife. Enter sizzling hot temptress Lola-Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets. Who will win? Come find out!- Either way, it’s a homerun hit.
The season continues with the Broadway smash hit from Dolly Parton, 9-5: The Musical, from August 22 through September 15. This outrageously funny and heartfelt musical is based on the popular movie about three female office workers who conspire to get even with their egotistical and hypocritical boss. When their plan spirals out of control, the situation becomes hilarious and the laughter is non-stop.
“Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story” rocks the 80th season to a close from September 20-October 21. Follow the incredible journey of Buddy’s meteoric rise to fame to the top of the record charts during the golden days of rock ‘n’ roll to his untimely death in 1959 in this popular tribute. You’ll be cheering for more with rousing fifties favorites. This joyous celebration of a musical legend will have you dancing in the aisles!
