Beautiful Place by the Sea or Coastal Lagoon?

August 27, 2008

For as long as I have been here, I’ve thought that Ogunquit meant Beautiful Place by the Sea…and so does everyone else I know!! So much to our surprise when the Family Scavenger Hunt included the question “What does Ogunquit mean” we got an answer that indicated “Coastal Lagoon”. Now where did that come from? After some research, the truth depends on which Indian tribe you  ask- The Abenaki indicate Beautiful Place by the Sea and the Naddick say “Coastal Lagoon”. So, there’s your new trivial question that few will get right! Whichever, Ogunquit is a Beautiful Place by the Sea with a Coastal Lagoon! Got anymore stumpers that I don’t know about???

My Fair Lady filling the Playhouse

August 25, 2008

In keeping with the Playhouse’s high class presentations, My Fair Lady fills the stage with great sets and eye dazzling costumes….It’s a full three hours long with songs aplenty and some pretty good voices. Guests at the Falls this week and through Labor Day week have the chance to go to matinees or evening performances. The new artistic director these past couple of years has made a terrific upgrade to the stage productions, bringing in sets and costumes from New York, putting the Playhouse among the best in the country. What a great evening.

Ogunquit Museum of American Art

August 25, 2008

Ogunquit has long been an art colony and in the mid 50’s Henry Strater donated the land for the development of the current museum. It sits on a very picturesque cove just past Perkins Cove-543 Shore Road.

Currently and through the end of October, the museum is exhibiting Dorothy Eisner paintings, The New Hope School (Pennsyvania impressionists) and the watercolors of Robert Eric Moore. The museum is considered to be one of the finest small art museums in the country and a visit is a must for those who have any interest in american art. Also consider the Almost Labor Day Auction scheduled for Saturday, August 30. The season ends at the end of October…..

Kids CAN entertain themselves!

August 25, 2008

“See Mom!  I can entertain myself while you read your book.”

I found these kids playing a game by the waterfall today.  Moms were happily on the back patio reading.  It was a fabulous sight!

We have a ton of games for guests to sign out and use during the vacation.

Hope to see you soon!

Genesis Day Spa is fabulous!

August 25, 2008

So, I did a little quality control today at Genesis Day Spa (tough job, huh).

It was fabulous.  I had a Luxurous European Facial with Rebecca.  I felt like a queen!  When was the last time you treated yourself to something like that?  If your like me, probably not in a very long time.

When you plan your next visit to Ogunquit, make sure you schedule an appointment at Genesis.

Heather reads to Colton

August 20, 2008
Our newest guest!

Our newest guest!

So, I was able to get Colton to sit for a few minutes and read a book with me.  Although, his attention span is minimal, and he likes to eat the pages – I think it works out all the same!

He is now almost 8 months old…  Time flys…. remember when your big one was that little…..

We had to move the crib mattress down a few notches… someone can almost pull themselves up to their feet!  Lord, Help me!  HAHAA!!

Let’s go to Portsmouth!

August 19, 2008

Only a short 20 miles south from the resort is the seafaring town of Portsmouth, NH. Wandering around there it’s easy to find new and exciting restaurants. Recently, I found Brazo (actually I read about it in a magazine). Wow! It’s latin and south american inspired food and decor. Very cool colors with very high backed booths..Several wonderful things found their way to our table: corn on the cob rolled in a blue cheese sauce, some great fish tacos, fried oysters and a what you would expect latin inspired paella. All terrific and worthy of a return visit. Check with the front desk for directions-truly a good alternative for dinner one night-and open year round, of course. Check it out!

Keith goes to Katie’s!

August 19, 2008

So, with all the buzz, I ran to Katie’s on my day off for lunch..The place looks terrific-very beachy, white, crisp and simple.. How about baked macaroni with lobster??? There was a good variety of sandwiches, in keeping with their approach to meals that are not overwhelmingly large.. I had the French croque monsieur and the fries that came with it were great.. They’re open for breakfast, too. Alas, they’re going to be one of those that closes for the winter so hurry and start enjoying the place before the season ends! (They did say that there were plans to be open for holidays-the owners live just across the street)
