A different ‘point of view’

December 19, 2016

A little honesty from me – I love Maine but I hate being cold!  In order to survive our winter months, I really need to reach inside myself and remember that all seasons have beauty.  You just have to change your ‘point of view’; this can be a figurative or literal view.  In this case, I went out to find the literal beauty that is all around me.  It was a cold day on Drake’s Island, just up the road from the Resort.  The wind was whipping and it was all I could do to keep my hood on my head.  My goal was just to snap some quick pics and head back to the car as quickly as I could.  An interesting thing happened while I was out there.  I ended up taking a lot more shots than I had planned – even with the clouds there was so much beauty all around me!  The waves were powerful, huge whitecaps crashing onto the beach.  The sea smoke was smoldering along the coast line.  The patches of snow actually highlighted the tumbled stones on the sand.  Now, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t like the cold, considering there was no one else on the beach at that moment.  Sometimes we all just need to change our ‘point of view’.  If it’s the weather, personal circumstance, or just life, get out and find the beauty.  It’s there, waiting for all of us!  Hope you’re enjoying your day and the holiday season, looking forward to meeting you – Sue

Now, don’t be deceived – it might look like everyone is staying in all bundled up under blankets.  Actually, though, this pic was taken before anyone was awake for the day! I thought it would be a good photo to use (thanks, Carol!) in order to emphasize that it’s COLD today!  The weather people are predicting some snow tonight and tomorrow.  But what do you expect?  This is the Northeast, after all.  And around here, we know how to have a good time in the cold and the snow.  Do you like to ice skate?  Then head up to Kennebunk for some outdoor skating right downtown.  Or, you can head down to Portsmouth, NH and skate at Strawbery Banke.  How about some sledding?  Take a drive to South Berwick and take a couple of runs down Powderhouse Hill.  If you’ve never been snow tubing, then you are really missing some fun!  Just a little ways north of the Resort, you’ll find Seacoast Adventure Park.  Take a spin (literally) on one of their tubes and you’ll find you love snow and cold!  I have to be honest, we are not really close to any big ski mountains.  But, we have our beach that is beautiful in the summer and also in the winter.  There’s nothing like a walk along the shore when you’re the only one there.  You might find things you’ve never seen before.  You’ll still be able to listen to the waves crash and watch birds soaring,  and you can be sure that no one will be kicking sand at you!

Hope you’ll be able to take some time to visit us this winter.  Pack an extra layer or two, stop by to visit me and I’ll make sure to get you to wherever you want to enjoy in the cold!  Enjoy the day,  Sue

Christmas by the Sea!

December 5, 2016

It’s almost here – the weekend to celebrate all things merry and bright!  Ogunquit is the place to be on Friday through Sunday to enjoy its’ 30th annual Christmas by the Sea.  The town tree lighting is Friday evening, right after the concert performed by the local teen group “Encore”.  The downtown stores are open with holiday sales and, of course, the arts and crafts shows will have original and handmade goodies.  You’ll want to visit with Santa at the Fire Station on Saturday, he will be arriving by fire truck!  There will be hay rides, food tastings and parties galore – what a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit of the season.  And don’t forget the parade, bonfire, fireworks and the ‘polar plunge’.  I’m excited and already exhausted…

Hope everyone enjoys some fun and frivolity at this time of year, we can help you find just what you’re looking for here at the Resort.  Give us a call or stop by and say ‘hi’.  We look forward to seeing you, enjoy the day!   Sue
