South Pacific at The Ogunquit Playhouse-playing now!

June 27, 2012

Making it to Ogunquit Playhouse for South Pacific is surely a run-don’t-walk situation. Based on the critically acclaimed multiple Tony Award winning 2008 Lincoln Center revival, Ogunquit’s production is moving, funny and musically lush, with fabulous performances from the leads. The Playhouse has assembled a South Pacific cast and creative team, for s sensitive and informed approach to the show.
Branch Fields understudied the role of Emile de Becque at Lincoln Center and has a marvelous voice, sensually resonant, strong and gentle. More than that, his articulation has a wonderfully natural quality, with the clarity of speech married perfectly to the beauty of music.
Jennie Sophia as Ensign Nellie Forbush, the naïve American nurse who falls in love with Emile, the experienced, sophisticated Frenchman, is a delight. Her voice is lovely and pure with excellent control and she performs with emotional subtlety. She has played Nellie on the national tour.
After the warm opening scene at Emile’s hilltop home, the male chorus of sailors makes its first appearance. Led by Ben Crawford and Luthur Billis, they burst onto the stage singing and dancing and keep the energy high.
South Pacific continues through Sunday, July 15 with performances nightly except Mondays and four matinees per week. The show includes loud noises, bright lights, on-stage smoke, sexuality and brief male nudity. For information visit http://www.ogunquitplayhouse.org or call 207-646-5511.

Children’s Fishing Trips!

June 11, 2012

“By the hour” fishing trips specifically geared for children have become increasingly popular over the past few years. On standard length fishing trips, boredom can get the best of kids even when plenty of fish are being caught. Therefore, ‘children’s fishing trips” offer an hourly trip for children based on a “play it by ear” concept, to determine how long they are on the water. These trips can be custom tailored to your children and what they prefer to do during their time on the boat. There is no pre-set agenda.
These hourly trips are offered on a basis of 1, 2, 3 or 4 hours. There are no age limit requirements. Typically all fishing trips allow a maximum of 4 people. However, if there is a majority of children we may allow up to 5 people aboard. Hourly trips usually start around 10:00am or 2:00pm, therefore getting up at 5:00am is not required!
These “Trina Lyn” Fishing charters have been offered since 1994. The Children’s Fishing Trips can include lobster demonstrations, seal watching and more. They operate out of Old Orchard Beach, just about 20 minutes north of the Falls. You can reach them at 207-284-2352 or 207-283-2352. They accept Mastercard and Visa for the deposit. Balance due can be paid in cash, travelers checks or Money Order.
