2011 Open Lighthouse Day

Many of the state’s coastal, island and river lighthouses will be open to the public on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Most lights will be open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for guided or self-guided tours of keepers houses and light towers. Some light stations will have limited accessibility or special restrictions, This is the third annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day being sponsored by the U.S. Coastguard, the state of Maine and the American Lighthouse Foundation.
Last year, hundreds of people visited lighthouses along the Maine coast in the largest effort of its kind in the nation. For details about visitor hours, fees, activities and transportation to each participating lighthouse visit http://www.lighthouseday.com.
