Spamalot at the Playhouse

This beach resort has become Maine’s epicenter of knight life as The Playhouse stages “Spamalot”. This Tony Award winning show is an incredibly funny spoof of the  legends  associated with King Arthur, the Knights of the Roundtable and the search for the Holy Grail. “Spamalot” adds hilariously comic and utterly irreverent twists to the familiar story and characters.

As  one of only  five  successful bidders for regional performance rights, The Playhouse opened “Spamalot” last week to a sold-out house.  It’s a sensationally good show!   Per normal Ogunquit practice, the cast is headed by a television star-in this case Charles Shaughnessy (“The Nanny”) delightfully portraying King Arthur. Top female of the show-the Lady of the Lake and later Queen Guinevere- is Rachael York, who boasts a long line of credits from Broadway and national tours.

In addition to winning the performance rights, Ogunquit also rented the exquisite costumes, scenery and props from the most recent national tour. The Playhouse picked up the material in San Francisco and transported it in five trucks to Maine,, where it’s all been stored for a year. Well worth the trouble!!

Hurry and catch this special show before in ends on September 11th….

Next up is our old friend Sally Struthers in Chicago- on stage until the end of October.
