Historic Ogunquit Playhouse opens June 9

The 78th season at the Ogunquit Playhouse offers an outstanding line-up of shows this year, each one a Tony Award winner. On the schedule are The Drowsy Chaperone, The Sound of Music, Sunset Boulevard, Spamalot and Chicago.

The 20 week season opens with The Drowsy Chaperone, a musical comedy that immerses audiences in the hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her wedding day. The production stars Carson Kressley as the “Man in the Chair” who imagines performers coming to life in his shabby apartment whenever he plays an old cast album. Joining Kressley is emmy nominated actress Georgia Engel.

The Sound of Music takes the stage from June 30 through July 24. The Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration features delightful songs, an endearing love story and an inspirational finale.

Sunset Boulevard! , July 28 through August 14, features the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and tells the story of a faded star of the silent screen, Norma Desmond, and the handsome young screenwriter, Joe Gills, who stumbles into the life of the ex-film-goddess.

Monty Python’s Spamalot, a musical reminiscent of the internationally renowned film, Monty Python and the Holy  Grail, runs from August 18 through September 11. This parody of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table won the best musical Tony.

Chicago, featuring Sally Struthers in the role of Big Mama,  runs September 15 through October 24. The tale about corruption and celebrity was  inspired by the sensationalized trials of 1920s Chicago.
