Ogunquit Museum of American Art

by

art“The most beautiful little museum in the world”

The Ogunquit Museum of American Art is the only museum in the state of Maine devoted exclusively to the exhibition and collection of American Art. The Permanent Collection includes almost 1600 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, photography and graphics.
It opened for the 2009 season on July 1, and remains open until October 31. Hours are 10-5 daily except Sunday when hours are 1-5.
Upon entering the museum, visitors look directly through the glass wall of its main gallery to the dramatic coast, the ocean, and the far horizon. Visitors are invited to enjoy the Museum grounds, three acres of landscaped gardens, lawn and ocean ledge. The grounds include numerous large sculptures, a reflecting pool, and secluded benches for quit contemplation.
Visitors often ask how a nationally recognized art museum came to be located in a small coastal fishing village in southern Maine. The answer lies in both the beauty of the area, which lead to the formation of the famous Ogunquit Art colony in the late 1890’s and the drive and generosity of the Museum’s founder, Maine painter and philanthropist Henry Strater.
Visit the museum’s website http://www.ogunquitmuseum.org for a full description of the 2009 scheduled exhibits. The museum is located at 543 Shore Road in Ogunquit. The Museum Shop is open during regular museum hours and offers hundreds of fine art reproductions and gift items.
This is a must see for all art lovers…..
